How Much Does a Wedding Photographer Cost in the UK?

As a Manchester-based wedding photographer working across the UK and Europe, I’m often asked how much couples should expect to invest in wedding photography.

There isn’t one fixed price. Wedding photography can vary considerably depending on the photographer’s experience, style, coverage, editing, location and what is included in the package.

For couples who care about their photographs and want a natural, thoughtful approach, it’s worth looking beyond the number of hours and considering the whole experience you are investing in.

HOW MUCH DOES WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY COST IN THE UK

There isn't one standard price for wedding photography in the UK.

Some photographers offer shorter coverage or simpler packages, while others provide full-day coverage, additional photographers, film photography, albums, bespoke planning and a more tailored experience.

The price can also vary depending on location. London and some parts of the South East, for example, tend to have higher supplier costs than many other parts of the UK.

Rather than choosing a photographer based purely on price, I would always recommend looking carefully at their full portfolio, understanding what is included and thinking about how you want your wedding photographs to feel.

Your photographs are something you'll keep long after the wedding day itself, so finding the right photographer matters just as much as finding the right package.

HOW MUCH DOES A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER COST IN MANCHESTER?

I'm based in Manchester and photograph weddings throughout the North West, across the UK and in Europe.

My current wedding photography collections start from £1,750 for 8 hours of coverage, with 10-hour coverage at £2,300.

My approach is documentary and editorial, with a combination of digital photography and 35mm film.

8 HOURS | £1,750

Eight hours of coverage gives enough time to tell a substantial part of your wedding story, from preparations through to your reception and dancing.

10 HOURS | £2,300

Ten hours gives us more time to document your day from earlier preparations through to the evening, with more room for all the little moments that happen along the way.

My 10-hour collection also includes 35mm film photography.

Both collections are designed around a relaxed experience, with most of the day photographed naturally and gentle direction when you need it.

WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICE OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

There are several things that can influence the price of wedding photography.

HOURS OF COVERAGE

The amount of time your photographer spends with you naturally affects the investment.

A couple who wants photography for a short ceremony and portraits will need something very different from a couple who wants their entire wedding day documented, from morning preparations through to the evening celebrations.

Full-day coverage also gives your photographer more time to tell the complete story of your day.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S STYLE

Wedding photography isn't one single style.

Some photographers specialise in traditional posed photography. Others work in a documentary way, focusing on real moments as they happen. Some have a strong editorial or fashion influence, while others combine different approaches.

The editing style can also make a huge difference.

When you're choosing a photographer, look through complete wedding galleries and ask yourself whether you love the way they photograph an entire day, not just a few individual images.

DIGITAL AND 35MM FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

The type of photography you choose can also affect the overall investment.

I photograph weddings using both digital and 35mm film.

Digital photography gives me the flexibility and reliability to photograph everything from fast-moving moments to difficult lighting conditions.

35mm film adds something different. The grain, colour, softness and natural imperfections create photographs with a nostalgic, timeless quality.

I don't want every photograph to look the same, which is why I love combining the two formats.

You get the flexibility of digital photography alongside carefully chosen 35mm film photographs throughout your wedding story.

THE EXPERIENCE BEFORE YOUR WEDDING

There is much more to wedding photography than arriving with a camera on the morning of the wedding.

There is communication beforehand, understanding your plans, looking at your timeline, helping where photography timings are concerned and making sure everything is ready before the day arrives.

I also want you to feel comfortable with me before you're standing in front of the camera.

If you're camera-shy or you've never had professional photographs taken before, that's completely fine. I'll give you gentle direction when you need it, without turning your wedding day into a photoshoot.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE WEDDING

A large part of the work happens after your wedding day.

Your photographs need to be safely backed up, carefully selected, edited and organised before your final gallery is ready.

I want your full gallery to feel cohesive rather than like a collection of random photographs.

The colours, moments, portraits and details should all work together to tell the story of your wedding.

WHY DO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS HAVE DIFFERENT PRICES?

You may notice that wedding photographers can have very different prices, even when they offer similar numbers of hours.

That's completely normal.

Pricing can reflect many things, including the photographer's experience, demand, artistic style, number of weddings they take each year, coverage, editing process, equipment, film photography, second photographers, albums, travel and the level of service provided.

There isn't a single price that determines whether a photographer is right for you.

I would always recommend choosing based on the combination of the photographs you love, the photographer's approach and how comfortable you feel with them, rather than simply choosing the lowest price.

WHAT DOES 35MM FILM ADD TO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

If you've found this article because you're looking specifically for a 35mm film wedding photographer, this is something I particularly love offering.

Film has a character that is difficult to recreate digitally.

There is grain. There is softness. There is a certain depth and colour that can make an image feel nostalgic, almost as though it has been taken from another time.

At the same time, I don't think you should have to choose between digital and film.

That's why I photograph weddings using both.

Digital allows me to confidently document the whole day, while 35mm film gives us those beautiful analogue frames that add another layer to your gallery.

My Signature Collection includes 4 rolls of 35mm film, and additional rolls can be added if you'd like more film photography throughout your wedding.

HOW MANY HOURS OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY DO YOU NEED?

There isn't one answer that works for every wedding.

Think about what you would like photographed.

Do you want photographs of both of you getting ready?

Do you want the ceremony documented from beginning to end?

Do you want plenty of time for portraits and your drinks reception?

Do you want speeches and dinner photographed?

Do you want your photographer to stay into the evening and capture the dance floor?

For many weddings, 8 hours provides plenty of coverage. Ten hours gives more breathing room and allows your photographer to document more of the beginning and end of the day.

The best way to decide is to look at your wedding timeline as a whole.

MY APPROACH TO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

My work is documentary wedding photography with an editorial eye.

Most of the day, I stay in the background and photograph things as they naturally happen.

I'm looking for the little moments that can easily be missed.

The way your dad looks at you during the ceremony.

Your friends laughing together.

Someone wiping away a tear during the speeches.

The nervousness before you walk down the aisle.

The hug you didn't realise was happening behind you.

The atmosphere when everyone you love is finally together in one room.

When it comes to portraits, I don't expect you to know how to pose.

I'll give you simple prompts and gentle direction when needed, while keeping everything relaxed and natural.

I want your photographs to feel like you, rather than like you've spent the entire day performing for a camera.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY ACROSS THE UK

Although I'm based in Manchester, I photograph weddings throughout the UK and Europe.

That includes weddings in the North West, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Liverpool, Birmingham, London and further afield.

I also photograph weddings at countryside venues, private estates, country houses and destination locations.

So if you're planning a wedding outside Manchester, you don't need to find a photographer who is based in your exact area.

I'm available for weddings across the UK and Europe while bringing the same calm, documentary and editorial approach to every wedding.

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY INVESTING IN?

Your wedding photographs are one of the few things that stay with you after the wedding day.

The flowers disappear.

The cake is eaten.

The music stops.

The dress gets put away.

But your photographs remain.

Years later, you can look at them and remember the people who were there, the atmosphere in the room and all the little moments you didn't see yourself.

That's what I want your photographs to preserve.

Not only what your wedding looked like, but how it felt to be there.

If you’re planning a wedding in Manchester or anywhere in the UK and are looking for a photographer whose approach is natural, thoughtful and experience-led, I’d love to hear about your plans.
